Brown and Red Boston Terrier Puppies

A red Boston Terrier, also called brown, chocolate or liver, has a warm reddish-brown coat with white markings, a liver-colored nose and often light amber or hazel eyes.

Red comes from a recessive gene that changes black pigment to brown. The AKC standard lists liver as a disqualifying color for the show ring, but red Bostons make the same affectionate, clownish companions as any other Boston.

Brown and red are among the most-searched Boston Terrier colors in the US.

Brown & Red Boston Terrier FAQ

Is a red Boston Terrier the same as a brown Boston Terrier?

Yes. Red, brown, chocolate and liver all describe the same family of coat colors in Boston Terriers.

Can red Boston Terriers be AKC registered?

A purebred Boston from registered parents can be registered whatever their color. Red is simply outside the show standard.
